Classical Musicians bringing you the best of Nerd Music
Trio Menagerie is a string trio composed of three friends who met via the furry fandom, all scattered across Boston, Chicago, and New Hampshire. The trio has primarily performed at conventions around America, particularly Midwest FurFest, Motor City Fur Con, Anthro New England, and GenCon. They perform both classical music and arrangements of music from movies, games, and TV, and hope to bridge the gap between audiences and musicians of all stripes as they go to more unconventional performance spaces.
Who are we?
Kathryn Tarko, also known as Rory Leonore, is our cellist. She started playing the cello at the age of three with famed Boston Suzuki teacher, Nancy Hair. She holds a Bachelors in Music from Drake University from her studies with Ashley Sidon, and studied with Richard Hirschl at the Roosevelt Chicago College for Performing Arts for her Master Degree. She won the Fort Dodge Young Artist Competition playing my favorite concerto by Shostakovich, and was a member of the Des Moines Symphony, Waterloo Cedar Falls Symphony, Orchestra Iowa, and Peoria Symphony. She currently lives in Chicago teaching for the non profit People's Music School, and enjoys performing at her favorite place to be; conventions! She composes several of the Trio's arrangements, while also managing graphic design, merchandise, social media and touring for the group.
A native of Miami, Arturo Fernandez also, also known Herr Wozzeck, is a violist and composer who enjoys all genres of classical music, but particularly opera. He earned his Bachelors of Music at the Boston Conservatory, his Masters of Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and his Doctorate in Composition at the College-Conservatory of Music at Cincinnati. He currently lives in Boston, where he acts as an opera critic for an online publication and also composes pieces for the trio. He is mostly responsible for the Geekludes and Fugues, as well as a few arrangements and some of the choices of more modern music the trio has embarked on.
Andrew Dezmelyk, known by "Shost" to their friends, is a violinist and composer who lives in the forests of New Hampshire. Funny enough, the "Shostakovich" they are named for is the same Shostakovich that is Rory's favorite composer! They received a Bachelors of Music degree in 2018 from Boston University in Violin Performance, and started violin at the age of 4. They champion the research and performance of rarely heard classical music, spending much of their time finding the works of obscure composers, or pieces of famous ones that have been lost to history.
